What is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)?

The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) defines a Certified Diabetes Educator as a “health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge of and experience in prediabetes, diabetes prevention and management.”

Certified Diabetes Educators provide self-management education and support so that individuals living with diabetes will be better equipped to understand and cope with the illness they are living with. Certified diabetes education is recognized by most health insurance plans and is covered by Medicare if it is offered through an accredited diabetes education program.
