- Diabetes is one of the most common chronic disease in Georgia
- Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death in Georgia in 2006
- In 2008, approximately 707,000 adults aged 18 years and older (10.1% of the Georgia adult population)reported that they had been diagnosed with diabetes (equivalent to one in seven Georgians)
- It is estimated that for every two persons with diabetes, another has not yet been diagnosed. Thus approximately 354,000 additional adult Georgians are estimated to have undiagnosed diabetes
