Nationwide, roughly 29 million people are living with diabetes, 8 million of those people being undiagnosed.DAA_teststick The Centers for Disease Control has announced that if current trends continue, 1 out of every 3 adults could have diabetes by the year 2050. Approximately 1 million Georgians have been diagnosed with diabetes while 350,000 are unaware they have the disease. This means approximately one-third of Georgians who have diabetes do not know they have it. DAA’s Early Detection Program is a health screening process that identifies individuals who may have diabetes or who may be at risk of developing diabetes. Early detection is the key to timely diagnosis and treatment, which can in turn prevent or delay life-threatening complications from diabetes. The Diabetes Association of Atlanta, Inc. provides a trained staff specialized in glucose monitoring to perform diabetes screenings at organizations such as nonprofit agencies, churches, community organizations, and corporations. The well-trained staff travels to screening sites located in various areas of the thirteen counties in metropolitan Atlanta.”
